IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay 27 Band 8 Sample Answer
Solar energy is becoming more and more popular as a source of household energy in many countries around the world. Why is this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy?
There has been exponential growth observed in terms of solar panel installation during the last few years worldwide. Especially, homeowners are giving more preference to this renewable energy source. Various factors contribute to its popularity.
Firstly, lower energy bill to homeowners leads more installations of solar panels. Most people know what it means to pay high energy bills even when you know that you barely used much power. Solar panels ensure that when you are cooling your home, you are doing it for free. The same sun that will be making your home feel hot is the same sun that will power your home’s cooling system. Secondly, Solar Power Improves Grid Security. When people switch to solar power, they are less likely to experience blackouts or brownouts. For instance, every household in the UK that have solar cells installed, functions as a small power plant.
The fast-food industry has negative effects on our health, the environment, and family eating habits. Do you agree or disagree?
Moreover, Production Costs are lower for solar panel installation. It means for the same amount of money; you will be able to get more power. People tend to invest more when they get a lot more from their investment. In addition to this, maintance cost is almost equal to zero. You will most often not have to service your solar panel until maybe after a year. Therefore, the low cost of solar panels that has been experienced in the last few years has attracted more people.
However, solar energy also has some limitations. Although technology has improved, solar energy is still more expensive than conventional energy. The initial cost of installation of solar panels is also quite high. Various other factors such as the lack of a support system for repairs and the difficulty in getting replacements are also hindering large scale adoption of solar power systems.
In conclusion, solar power has its demerits too, but I believe that as the technology advances more, solar power will become more popular than conventional energy sources.
