Solar energy is becoming more and more popular as a source of household energy in many countries around the world. Why is this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy?

Solar energy is becoming an increasingly popular form of alternative energy because it is the most abundant renewable source of energy. Nowadays, technology has provided numerous ways that convert energy from the sun into electricity. This power production has various benefits with having some downsides too.

Firstly, the main advantage is solar power is a renewable and clean source of electricity. It never produces gas emissions and is also scalable. It means it can be deployed on an industrial as well as household level. Secondly, household installation of solar panels reduces electricity bills. It depends on the size of the system people can meet several energy needs with the electricity that the solar system has generated, their energy bills will drop automatically. For example, if you are a business using a commercial solar system, it has huge benefits because the large system size can cover large chunks of your energy bills. Moreover, there is also a possibility to receive payments for surplus energy in turn of giving electricity to grids.

Many believe that living in a city offers greater benefits compared to life in the countryside. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Furthermore, the maintenance cost of this idea is lower than other methods. Net metering system components like solar panels, inverters, and mounting structures need low to no maintenance. Since these installations do not require generators or batteries, a considerable expense for their maintenance is equal to zero. It does not only save your money but your time too. Last but not least, it needs fewer resources for installation. Since net metering solar systems are installed on the roofs of residential houses and commercial buildings, they do not require large tracts of land like their large solar park cousins.

There are some drawbacks to solar energy. Mainly, the initial cost of purchasing a solar system is fairly high. That includes paying for solar panels, inverter, batteries, wiring, and installation. Nevertheless, solar technologies are constantly developing, so it is safe to assume that prices will go down in the future. Another disadvantage is solar panels are dependent on sunlight to gather solar energy. It is possible to collect solar energy during cloudy and rainy days, the efficiency of the solar system drops. But having more benefits, minor drawbacks are negligible.

In conclusion, although solar energy has some demerits, it comes with several benefits such as more electricity at less cost and maintenance.

Some claim that studying abroad has great benefits for a student’s home country. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
