IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay 34 Band 8 Sample Answer

School children today take part in work experience sessions for short periods instead of attending school? Is this a positive or negative development?
Nowadays, children have been indulging in part-time jobs rather than joining regular classes at schools. There is controversy whether it is beneficial for their physical and mental growth or not. This essay will discuss the matter in the forthcoming paragraphs.
There are mainly two factors behind taking part in work experience sessions. Firstly, it raises the sense of self-independence and social dignity. It makes them more confident to live independently from their parents. The leading outcomes: they can understand the importance of money and also become a responsible person. Doing a part-time job at an early stage of life teaches them the importance of earning money and prevents them from being a spendthrift. For instance, during my college days, I used to take part-time tuition classes, which taught me to save my hard-earned money. Secondly, working part-time also makes the children productive, mature, and responsible. To exemplify, odd-jobs like a pizza boy, babysitter needs punctuality and smart tricks to work smoothly for good earnings. Consequently, they do their work seriously/ sincerely and take complete responsibility.
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or storage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
However, every coin has two sides, despite all the advantages of a temporary job, there are some drawbacks. Firstly, it disturbs the regular schedule of the children. To illustrate, the students are already burdened with their study schedule; therefore, doing other jobs will affect their studies. Moreover, they will not be able to spend time with their parents and friends. It can imbalance their physical or mental strength to some extent. To exemplify, children will have to do the part-time job in the evening or night only after school hours; as a result, they may not be able to spend any quality time with their parents.
To conclude, this phenomenon has both negative and positive sides. I believe that children should do work to learn better qualities or to manage their daily routine. They should not take it as a burden that spoils their happiness.
