Some people say that older people should live with their adult children, while others think they should live in homes specially built for old people. Which do you think is a better practice?
It is widely argued whether taking care of the elderly in their own homes or letting them live in nursing homes is a better option. In my opinion, the latter view is the best option than the former one.
There are many reasons why advocates support the view that aged people should live in rest homes. In this day and age, it is undeniable that young people are so busy with their heavy workloads that they can leave little time for taking care of their old parents. It means that many elderly people not only have to do things by themselves, but they may also feel lonely and bored in their houses. Furthermore, the number of retired citizens is likely to suffer from health deterioration or joint-related diseases that make them unable to walk. Therefore, living in designated homes for the elderly can provide efficient medical care from experienced nurses.
Scientists and technology experts seem to be more valued by modern society than musicians and artists. To what extent do you agree?
Moreover, being surrounded by like-minded older adults to share the events of the day can have a tremendous impact on senior’s mental and emotional well-being. The informal conversations and gatherings that happen every day allow senior living residents to build their circle of friends and feel less alone. Activities that take place among senior living communities every day are designed to engage the body, mind, and spirit. However, being with family perhaps more flexible as they can visit anywhere at any time. In their own home, they have some neighbors they know and trust. Their family certainly knows where you live, and hopefully, they are nearby. Nursing homes and retirement centers often have limited visiting hours and a check-in process, so although feasible, it makes it a bit harder to have visitors come and go leisurely. By living under the same roof as their adult children, they have an independent lifestyle. But the critical issue of the competitive era is that children have no time to spend quality time with elders. Consequently, aged people get disappointed and live under stress.
In conclusion, nursing homes cannot give a feel like their own home. I still hold a firm belief that retired citizens should live under the care of specially built nursing homes for them to maintain good health and expand their longevity.
