Some people think that hosting an international sports event is good for a country, while some think it is bad. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Hosting international sports events such as the Olympics, Fifa World Cup, or the Super Bowl raise economic development significantly in countries or cities. However, these economic developments can be beneficial but also very costly for host countries. I will give my opinion after analyzing both aspects.
Firstly, hosting international sports events increases the profile of a city that can lead to lasting economic benefits. For example, cities that host the Olympics can be assured of a persistent increase in recognition and tourism. Another significant benefit is the long-term investment that comes from preparing for a major event. The country gets a legacy of better sports venues. Also, cities generally invest in infrastructure and transportation to meet the influx of tourists. Moreover, the several years of planning and investment will help create jobs and can revitalize depressed cities.
Many people believe that the increasing number of cars in cities is the biggest source of pollution and waste. Others think that industries are the ones causing pollution. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
On the other hand, the disadvantage of arranging a global event is the huge financial gamble and risk of security concerns among players. The administrators are always concerned about the incurring deprivation of expenses on a large level. Because the cost of investment and taxes to pay money are high in these major functions. For example, in 1998 in India, the wrestling championship had gained a big loss due to the speculation invested in the incident which caused them to pay a 90% return of the payable expenditure. Additionally, these subjects are determined to some extent which are only handled by large corporations and businesses.
To conclude, holding an international sports event has both positive and negative sides. In my opinion, contests should be held to boost the basic foundation of the city instead of taking it as an ultra-challenging situation. This kind of event should be well–considered before being carried out.
