IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay 15 Band 8 Sample Answer

People’s shopping habits depend more on the age group that they belong to than other factors. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

During the last decade, the trend of shopping is increasing dramatically among people. It is considered that the age group is merely an essential factor behind this upward trend. However, in my opinion, others factors such as gender, interest, and money are equally important to purchase things.

Firstly, concerning the sexes, the young male and female children will not play with similar toys throughout the whole life span. It means their choices differ accordingly. For example, Women purchase household items, clothes for kids, cosmetics, whereas men have more interest in electrical gadgets and clothes. Secondly, money is also another factor that determines to what extend people can afford for shopping. For instance, in the round of inflation, the majority cannot purchase costly things of their choice as they have little or no source of heavy income. Consequently, rich people tend to shop more than poor people.

Moreover, modern trends force people to shop blindly by following advertisements they watch on social media. Media displays stunning photographs on screen and impresses the audience to react quickly to buy products as per their interest. Besides this, peer pressure is another important element, which manipulates purchasing choices. In such conditions, they often follow fads and buy things that they may or may not need. Nowadays, it is becoming a big reason for more and more shopping that people follow celebrities, friends and high-class people in their surroundings.

In conclusion, after analyzing all the aspects of the given statement, it is not hard to see that only age group is not crucial for buying, other aspects gender, financial status, family, friends, and advertising equation.

The ratio of poverty is increasing worldwide. What are the reasons for world poverty? What can be done to help the poor?
